Flying is the quickest way to reach Hualien, but flights are infrequent and sometimes subject to weather-related delays. Only one company “Uni Air” operates and there are no daily flights. For more info. search “Uni Air” online.
Driving

Driving provides the most flexibility, allowing you to stop whenever you like. The route along Hwy 9 (Suhua Highway) is famous for its stunning mountain and ocean views. However, after recent earthquakes, landslides have become more frequent, adding a lot of uncertainty. Therefore, it’s NOT recommended.

For most people, taking the train is the best choice. If you have the budget and there’s a flight available on the day, flying is an option. Driving is not highly recommended due to the many uncertainties on the road.
